Neighborhoods:
Downtown: Providence’s downtown is a sophisticated urban center that seamlessly blends the old with the new. After years of development combined with careful historical preservation, downtown is filled with elegant hotels, superior restaurants, theatres, and upscale shopping.

Federal Hill: Federal Hill, the neighborhood surrounding the east end of Atwells Avenue in Providence, is known as the city’s “Little Italy.” Providence’s rich Italian influence still thrives there, though many other diverse cultures have emerged as well. Visitors are welcomed to the Hill as they pass through a large arch. Hanging from the arch is a pinecone, an
Italian symbol for hospitality.

East Side: The East Side of Providence is home to Brown University, the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), historical homes and mansions, and several unique entertainment and shopping districts. Thayer Street is lines with trendy clothing, music and gift shops, eclectic restaurants, cafes and a movie theatre. Wickenden Street is known for its galleries, shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafes. Hope Street is another section of the East Side featuring a variety of shopping and dining options.

West End: The West End of Providence is rapidly emerging as a trendy retail and residential district. Accented by eclectic restaurants and shops, the West End is also known for the stately Victorian homes lining its streets. The recent influx of new residents and businesses has led to the restoration of many of these historical homes, recapturing the grandeur of a century ago.
